Professional football player turned actor/director/producer Fred Dryer was perhaps best known as the star of the NBC action series “Hunter” (1984-1991), which dominated weekend programming for most of its network run. Born John Frederick Dryer on July 6, 1946 in Hawthorne, CA, Dryer was raised in Lawndale, CA and attended Lawndale High School and El Camino College before moving on to San Diego State University, where he played football for the Aztecs. Once there, the 6’6” Dryer quickly made a name for himself during the 1967-68 season, earning the Chase Memorial Trophy as the school’s best
