After more than 10 years of television production experience, Kelly moved through a series of production and executive positions at KABC-TV in Los Angeles. Making a move to Paramount Pictures in 1983, he played an active role in programming, eventually becoming executive vice president of Paramount's Domestic TV Division in 1989.
