A slim, aristocratic-looking comedienne, Christine Baranski built an extensive theater career while also making a name for herself in feature films and TV in the 1980s and 90s. Despite the fact she is a two-time Tony Award-winner (for Tom Stoppard's "The Real Thing" in 1985 and Neil Simon's "Rumors" in 1989), Baranski is perhaps best-known for her scene-stealing performance as Cybill Shepherd's dagger-tongued, gin-swilling best friend Maryann Thorpe in the CBS sitcom "Cybill" (1995-98).
