A Beverly Hills native who dropped out of college to begin his career in the business end of "show business", Barry Diller rose from the ranks of agency mail clerk to network honcho to studio head to media mogul, along the way developing a reputation as ferociously driven. As the 21st Century dawned, he was still building his empire that included companies with ties to movies, television, e-commerce and information services.
