For over the past 30 years, the diminutive, stage-trained character actor, Austin Pendleton has been cast in film and TV roles that, in an earlier generation, might have been filled by such hand-wringing nervous Nellies as Edward Everett Horton or Franklin Pangborn. He worked at the Williamstown (MA) Theater Festival while attending Yale, then headed for New York after his 1961 graduation.
